In case email messages are a key part of your correspondence with business associates or relatives, it may be better to use an email with your very own personal domain and an email provider that offers support for the POP3 and IMAP email retrieval protocols, instead of resorting to a web-based service that involves limitations as to the maximum size of the attachments. In this way, you’ll be able to access your emails on any desktop or mobile device using any program – Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook, etc. With the IMAP protocol, you will be able to see the email messages at your end, but they will be on the server at all times, while with the POP3 protocol, all emails will be downloaded onto the device, unless you choose a copy to be left on the mail server. Moreover, you will be able to take advantage of lots of other valuable options – contact groups, calendars, and so on, not to mention that if there’s a temporary issue with your Internet connectivity, you can still examine your emails as they will be on your desktop or mobile device.
