An AAAA record is an IP in the freshly presented IPv6 format and it comprises of eight different sets of hexadecimal numbers, unlike the IPv4 IPs, which feature four groups of digits between 1 and 255. An illustration of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and with this format the number of IPs that could be created is many times larger than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Each domain has its web hosting server IP address as a record and in essence, that record instructs the domain where the Internet site for it is. Depending on the system which the provider uses, the record is going to be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your website with one company and your email messages with a different one, so if you decide to use such a redirection to forward a domain address to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you will have to set up an AAAA record for it.
AAAA Records in Shared Web Hosting
If you need to set up a new AAAA record a domain name or subdomain hosted inside your shared web hosting account, it will not take you more than a couple of basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is very intuitive to use and is going to allow you to create or change every single record without difficulty. As soon as you log in and visit the DNS Records section, in which you'll discover all existing records for your domain names and subdomains, you'll simply have to click on the "New" button, choose AAAA from a small drop-down menu in the pop-up that will appear, input or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the change - it is as simple as that. The new record will be fully functioning within only one hour and the hostname which you have created it for will start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you will also be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds which the new record will be functioning after you eventually edit it to something different or you simply remove it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new AAAA record is very easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain in a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you want such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you have created under it, you're going to be able to create it within a few simple steps and without any hassle. Hepsia includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names in which you can find all existing records or set up new ones with several clicks. All it takes to achieve that is to select the domain/subdomain you want to modify, select AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and input the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address that the other service provider has given you. Within an hour after you save the modification, the new record will propagate worldwide and your domain address will start pointing to the third-party server. If they need it, you can also change the TTL value, which reveals the time this record shall be working with its present value before a new one kicks in if you make any adjustments in the future.
